Tracking Gate Threshold
Automatically tracks and compensates temperature-induced offset drift, so inspection runs without manual adjustment after the initial setup.
In eddy current structure testing, the pass/fail gate must be set carefully: good parts must fall inside the gate and defective parts outside it, so the gate is set to clearly separate the two.
Even with a well-set gate, one issue remains: offset drift. Active components on a circuit board change their output slightly with temperature, as shown below.
In an eddy current instrument that amplifies small signals, these drifts add up in the final output, and the higher the sensitivity, the larger the temperature drift. Eventually the signal moves outside the gate and a good part is judged defective.
Other instruments require a NULL every few hours or manual repositioning of the gate. This increases operator fatigue and leads to inspection mistakes.
